Project aim

The objective of this project is to develop and design a solar-powered electric car based on technical specifications given in the general regulations of the global race "WORLD SOLAR CHALLENGE" and to participate in the World Race World Solar Challenge in Australia in 2015. The solar-powered electric car should cross Australia, from Darwin to Adealida, a distance of approximately 3000 km.

The project aims to procure the substructure/construction for electric vehicles of up to 10 kW. It will be redesigned using a recognizable visual identity of the Republic of Croatia. High-efficiency solar cells will be installed and integrated into the vehicle and will recharge batteries during ride. Moreover, special batteries for energy storage will be developed. The solar-powered electric vehicle will be charged with electricity derived from renewable energy sources and energy from integrated solar cells. It should be pointed out that this project uses state-of-the-art and innovative green technologies in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. Furthermore, the project focuses on job creation as well as on the economic growth of Croatia. Being involved in the project, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Osijek continues its scientific and research work in the field of green technologies, environmental protection and sustainable development concerning the use of solar energy in clean transportation by employing innovative methods and materials with the purpose of reducing energy consumption and CO2 emission per kilometre.
