 Curriculum Vitae

Goran Martinović was born in 1969 in Orahovica, Croatia. He obtained his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek in 1996. In the same year, he started to work as a junior assistant at the same institution. In 2000, he obtained his MSc degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. In the same year, he was promoted to an assistant. In 2004, he obtained his PhD degree in Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. In the same year, he was promoted to a senior assistant. Dr Martinović was appointed Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Full Professor in 2004, 2009 and 2013, respectively. In 2017, he was appointed tenured Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology in Osijek. In 2005 and 2013, he was appointed Vice-Dean for Science and Vice-Dean for International Cooperation, respectively. As to his teaching activity, he has participated in and prepared a series of teaching materials in the following courses: Digital Electronics, Computer Architecture, Computers and Computer Systems, Fault-Tolerant Computer Systems, Operating Systems, Real-Time Computer Systems, Introduction to Computer Systems and Programming, Programming 1, System Programming, Distributed Computer Systems and others. In 2005 and 2006, he developed the Postgraduate Doctoral Study Program in Electrical Engineering, branches: Electrical Engineering and Communications and Informatics, where he is currently involved in the teaching process. In 2006, he founded the Postgraduate Specialist Study Program in Process Computing. Dr Martinović has mentored over 130 Master’s theses and final papers, two MSc degree theses and seven doctoral dissertations. The fields of his scientific and professional activity are as follows: embedded computer systems, distributed computer systems, software engineering, real-time systems, computer intelligence and data analysis. In 1996 and 1997, and from 1997 to 2002 he collaborated on three projects, and in 2002, he was a researcher on the project funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia. During 2003 and 2004, he collaborated on the project “Biogas Plant Automation System for Separation and Packaging of Biofertilisers”. In 2007, he was a researcher on one project and principal investigator on the project “Scheduling in autonomic distributed computer systems”, which was funded by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia. During 2007 and 2008 he was a researcher on the TEMPUS project, and in 2012 and 2013 the principal investigator on the IPA IVC project. From 2007 to 2011 he was an external collaborator-researcher on the PROGRESS project, and from 2010 to 2016 on the RALF 3 project (the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research). Since 2017, he has been a lecturer in the Erasmus+ KA2 project TEAMSOC21 - The ICT Engineer of the 21st Century, since 2016 he has been a member of DATACROSS - Center of Excellence for Data Science and Cooperative Systems: Research Unit for Data Science. Since 2018, he has been a researcher on the project Beacon research for the purpose of building a mobility network - development of a platform for urban mobility at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology in Osijek, within the framework of the program Strengthening the development of new products and services resulting from research and development activities. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology in Osijek project team working on the project ICT in Agriculture (Internationalisation in Higher Education, ESF). Since 2019, he has been an associate in two Croatian Qualifications Framework projects.

Dr Martinović participate/has participated in two COST actions, i.e., Open Multiscale Systems Medicine (OpenMultiMed) and Multi-Paradigm Modeling for Cyber-Physical Systems (MPM4CPS). In 2008, he was granted an external auditor certificate for the quality in higher education by the Agency for Science and Higher Education. He was appointed Chairman of the Council of Users of the Croatian National Grid Infrastructure (CRO NGI) and member of the CRO NGI Council. Since 1996, he has visited and stayed at several foreign institutions: Hochschule Bremen, Slovak Technical University Bratislava, Technische Universität Wien, Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken, and the International Conference and Research Center for Computer Science at Schloß Dagstuhl in Germany. In 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016, he worked as a researcher at Mälardalen University, Västeras in Sweden. Dr Martinović has authored or co-authored about 120 scientific and professional papers, and has delivered more than 30 paper presentations, mostly at international scientific conferences. He has also co-authored six university textbooks. He has held two invited lectures at a Croatian and a foreign university. Dr Martinović is the editor of several conference proceedings and a book of abstracts of an international conference. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: Technical Gazette, Journal of Applied Technical and Educational Sciences (IATES), and Int. J. on Advances in Software.

Dr Martinović is a member of program committees and a reviewer for a series of international conferences, as well as a reviewer for several international scientific journals. In 2009, he initiated publication of an international scientific journal International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering Systems, where he is co-editor-in-chief. He is a member of KoREMA, IEEE, ACM, IACIS, Cognitive Science Society, and the founder and head of the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (IEEE SMC), IEEE Croatia Section. Since 2007, he has been a member of the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Distributed Intelligent Systems. In 2006, Dr. Martinović received the IEEE Letter of Appreciation for contribution to development of organization, science and profession in IEEE SMC, and in 2008 he was awarded by IEEE Croatia Section for major contribution in engineering education. He is married and speaks English and German.
