Analysis of studying efficiency at the University

The analysis of the Bologna system implementation has been regularly conducted at the University. Given the increase in the amount of data, information support with a database providing more efficient analysis has been used since the 2012/13 academic year. Information support was done with the assistance of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Unique interface providing studying efficiency of the constituent units, branches and cycles was designed. Furthermore, the number of professors and students, space capacities, incoming and outgoing (Erasmus) mobility as the indicators of the Bologna system implementation are included.

Data for each constituent unit were entered by the authorized contact persons as well as the ISVU coordinators who provide technical support with the ISVU system.

Regarding the analysis of studying efficiency, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering performs the following activities:

- Creating online software tools for entering data accompanied with the guidelines

- Elaborating on the procedure of data collection from the “ISVU data storage” accompanied with the video instructions

- User support for entering data for all constituent units

- Entering statistical data from the 2004/05 to the 2011/12 academic year

- Analysing and presenting results, creating printed reports of the Bologna process implementation analysis and online results access

- Creating software support for the further analysis

Automatically importing data, the 2013/14 and the 2014/15 academic years are analysed directly from the ISVU system (restAPI). This provides more detailed and accurate analyses of studying efficiency together with other quality indicators.

The application that is already in use at the University. It is a multi-user application, which means that it can be accessed by multiple users at the same time.

                      - Employee data report

                             a) mandatory data - all data stipulated by law

                             b) detailed data - in addition to mandatory data, there are specific data relating specifically to teachers at the                                                                   University

                     - A list of employees sorted by the number of days before the expiration date of the contract

                     - A list of employees sorted by the number of days before the expiration of the period for which the employee is                                elected to the title

                     - Easy data entry/change/deletion in the register

                     - By using protective encryption, this software can send data that will be received by SUPER-etfos server software

The application that is already in use at the University. It is a multi-user application, which means that it can be accessed by multiple users at the same time.

                    - All personnel monthly recapitulation reports

                            a) a brief and simple summary view

                            b) a detailed recap of working time, including data for every day

                    - An individual detailed view of working hours for each employee

                   - Automated and simple entry/change of data on working hours

Records of classes held in a semester/academic year

The application that is already in use at the University. It is a multi-user application, which means that it can be accessed by multiple users at the same time.

                  - Standard teaching hours for a teacher in a particular month

                  - Monthly recapitulation (simple and detailed) of standard teaching hours in the given month

                  - Printed form on the records of classes held in a semester/academic year, filled in with dates, number of standard                           teaching hours and information on the subject/course, which is then completed and signed by teachers.

                  - Data on lectures, exercises and other standard teaching hours on a daily basis are entered according to timetables                         and information on the assignments of individual teachers

                  - By using protective encryption, this software can send data that will be received by SUPER-etfos server software

Unique university student survey

A unique university student survey was launched within the framework of establishing a system to ensure and improve the quality of studying at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, and it was first implemented in the academic year 2005/2006. The main reason for this survey is to get information about the quality of studying at our University from the students’ point of view.

In cooperation with the University of Osijek Office of Quality Enhancement and Assurance in Higher Education, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering performs the following tasks:

1. Development and harmonisation of the web application intended for data entry of university constituents including survey questions data referring to study programmes, courses, teachers and associates,

2. Development of the application for filling in the questionnaire (student interface), i.e., for a computer-based survey on all university constituents,

3. Direct implementation of the student survey through laptop computers and/or the Internet, depending on the decision of the University in consultation with all scientific-educational constituents,

4. Analysis and presentation of results, production of a CD with the results and analysis for both each constituent and the entire University, making brochures and public websites displaying survey results.

 

The basic advantages of this digital application made for the purpose of student survey as compared to manual implementation and presentation of data are described in the following implementation steps:

Step 1 – a web application is developed, through which each University constituent prepares data on teachers and courses. This enables the highest possible accuracy of the input data.

Step 2 – surveys are carried out at each University constituent in computer classrooms or by using laptops, and students anonymously and voluntarily evaluate teachers and courses, which ensures an objective evaluation. What is also possible and immediately detectable during the survey is a turnout by study programmes and branches.

Step 3 – automatic processing, analysis and presentation of results, which is very effective and there is no possibility of human error in processing large amounts of data (e.g., more than 88,000 questionnaires in the academic year 2011/2012), and each student may comment and explain his/her grade for any course and any teacher.

Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek website was created in 2010 to promote the activities of the University Rectorate. The end result combines an overview of all University activities, i.e., classes (enrollment, student exchange, regulations, quality), science, cooperation, mobility, PhD study programme, sports and offices at the University. The designed web information system allows the following:

                  - an intuitive multiple user interface,

                  - creation and editing of authorisations and accounts at arbitrary levels,

                  - unlimited content expandability,

                  - customised administration of information on constituents.

Digital Sessions of the Senate - Software

Sessions of the Senate

Digital University sessions software enables University management to prepare sessions of the Senate, archive all material and prepare a clear agenda for each session. All members of the Senate have an insight into the agenda before and during the session. It also enables recording of the minutes, and to all members of the Senate it enables comments on each item and sub-item on the agenda. All sessions are archived and stored in a separate programming framework. This software has been used since 2009.

Website of Lavoslav Ružička Polytechnic in Vukovar includes the entire information system for the institution. When the website was developed, attention was paid to all requirements and needs of a higher education institution.

               - Web pages presenting the institution and additional activities (conferences)

               - Repositories of teaching materials and the notification system of all courses and study programmes (more details)

               - Uploading and display of the timetable 

               - A multiple user system of publication

               - Student surveys and analyses (up to the academic year 2011/2012)

               - Information displays (touchscreen monitors) in the Polytechnic facilities, work in standalone mode (offline), are                           synchronised with the information given by the web server and provide general information, timetable and course-                           related notifications.
