IG07 - Research Group for Advanced Power Technologies and Systems

Description

ABOUT THE GROUP

The Research Group for Advanced Power Technologies and Systems (IG07) was established in 2018 within the Department of Power Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, Croatia. The group brings together researchers and experts dedicated to advancing knowledge and technological solutions in modern power engineering. With a strong record in both national and international scientific and professional projects, IG07 addresses key challenges in integrating renewable energy sources into power systems and improving the performance and reliability of electrical grids.

The group’s main objective is to conduct high-quality research and provide expert insights in areas such as smart power grids and microgrids, electricity market dynamics, power system protection, stability, and power quality. IG07 promotes collaboration among researchers with diverse expertise to develop optimisation models for the design, planning, and operation of systems with integrated renewable energy power plants, including photovoltaic, biomass, and biogas systems. Through its work, the group aims to contribute to sustainable energy integration, improvements in energy efficiency, and the deployment of efficient technologies in lighting and building energy management systems.

Active in both academia and industry, IG07 emphasises interdisciplinary approaches, bridging theoretical research with practical implementations that address contemporary energy challenges and support industry partners with technical analyses and innovative solutions.

KEY RESEARCH AREAS

  • Renewable energy integration and smart grid optimisation
  • Prosumer systems and distribution network management
  • System-level analysis, earthing, protection, and stability studies
  • Power quality and low-frequency electromagnetic field measurements

RESEARCH AREAS

The IG07 group focuses its research on several interrelated themes addressing both the planning and operation of modern energy systems. The group researches renewable energy sources, smart power, and microgrids, developing optimisation models for system design and operational scheduling while evaluating impacts on power networks. It also investigates optimal management of prosumer-based power systems and distribution networks within electricity markets, assessing market implications for distributed energy resources. Another core area includes power system analysis, protection, reliability, and stability, where advanced modelling and simulations enable protection coordination and stability assessments. The group also works extensively on power quality and low-frequency electromagnetic field measurements, operating an accredited laboratory for field measurement and analysis.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

The IG07 group possesses deep professional expertise that bridges advanced research with practical applications across the power engineering sector. Its experts are well-versed in designing, analysing, supervising, and optimising both renewable and conventional power plants, offering technical support throughout project lifecycles. The group also specialises in intelligent electrical installations and smart control systems, particularly in relation to energy efficiency and building energy management systems.

KEY PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

  • Technical-economic analysis and feasibility studies for energy systems
  • Power flow, short-circuit, and system stability analyses
  • Protection system coordination and relay setting studies
  • Earthing system design, lightning protection, and insulation coordination
  • Power quality assessment and electromagnetic field measurements
  • Advanced modelling and simulation of electrical power systems
