We have developed software for the automatic reconstruction of indoor scenes from
RGB-D images captured by a 3D camera with a pan-tilt mechanism from a single
viewpoint. During image acquisition, the next view is automatically selected based on
the percentage of unexplored scene areas captured within the field of view and the
information content in the overlap region between the next view image and one of the
previously captured images. After a scan is completed, the 3D scene model is created by
registering the captured depth images.
