Last Thursday, 18 December 2025, FERIT hosted the workshop “Distribution Networks with a High Share of Active Customers”. The event was organised within the SynGRID project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between academia and the energy sector.
The workshop addressed current challenges and ongoing research related to the management and optimisation of electricity distribution networks, particularly in the context of a growing share of active customers, distributed energy resources, and advanced digital solutions. Through expert presentations and in-depth discussions, participants explored the evolving role of distribution system operators and the need for innovative approaches to low-voltage grid management.
The event brought together researchers, energy professionals, and representatives of energy-sector companies, enabling effective knowledge and technology transfer. The exchange of perspectives between academia and industry contributed to aligning research outcomes with practical needs and real-world applications.
Overall, the workshop highlighted the importance of international collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches promoted by the SynGRID project, as well as the need to develop advanced solutions to support the energy transition and ensure the efficient operation of modern distribution networks.
