From November 12 to 14, 2025, the Reinforcement Farming Hackathon was hosted at FERIT. This event brought together ten teams, each consisting of 2-4 participants, from diverse institutions including FERIT, MATHOS, UCLM (Spain), VUAS (Latvia) and ELPROS (Osijek).
Over the course of two intense days and nights, participants engaged in the complex challenge of multi-agent reinforcement learning. Their task was to program a virtual shepherd dog to herd sheep into a barn and protect them from a wolf, while simultaneously training the wolf to strategize attacks on the sheep. This sophisticated simulation provided attendees with a unique platform to apply their knowledge and hone their skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning. In addition to the rigorous competition, participants had the opportunity to network with fellow students from various European faculties and universities.
The hackathon also featured several social events, notably "Reinforce Your Brain," a trivia night designed to help participants recharge their batteries. Following two days and nights of dedicated effort, the hackathon concluded with a final competition, and the results were as follows:
1st Place, FERIT: Eugen Sedlar, Domagoj Lukas
2nd Place, FERIT: Šimun Posavac, Domagoj Vukosavljević, Tristan Bakula
3rd Place, ELPROS: Aleksandar Farkaš, Patrik Knez, Toni Lončar, Marko Marinac
We extend our sincere congratulations to all participants for their remarkable efforts and eagerly anticipate the next challenge. Special thanks are extended to the organizing team - students Leon Mađerić, Stjepan Molnar, Ramal Salha, and Ivan Lazić, for their dedicated efforts. Their work was carried out under the supervision of Matej Džijan, PhD, and Assistant Professor Petra Pejić, PhD.
